Blood sugar management
Yacon syrup is important in lowering of blood sugar levels. It contains sugar-like molecules referred to as fructooligosaccharides also known as FOS. These serve to provide the sugary sweetness without increasing blood sugar levels. A study performed on some insulin resistant obese volunteers indicated that they all had achieved significantly lower levels of fasting insulin after a 120 days period. This is after being subjected to a dosage comprising 0.14 grams and 0.29 grams of fructooligosaccharides per kilogram of body weight. However, there was no change in the level of fasting blood sugar. Additionally, the study also indicated that the Yacon syrup facilitated weight loss as well as suppressing appetite.
