Time To Say Goodbye
Most stories have a poignant 'goodbye' scene between the self-sacrificing hero and the duty-bound heroine. I hadn't realized, until this moment, that in my book Orchids For Roses, there are no less than three goodbye scenes.
Personally, if I connect emotionally with a story and its protagonist(s)--yes, I'm talking tears and great swelling sobs--you can bet that book finds a permanent place on my bookshelf.
I guess the question is: is a goodbye scene vital to a story, pulling the reader's emotional strings? Or is it manipulative and tacky?
