A great and yet modest love story between an unlikely pair. Intelligent witty and filled with vivid imagery which entwine with the narrative, enhancing the visual quality of the story. The story engages all the senses and often reflects on taste and texture. Seasonal and atmospheric the setting played well into the romance. I liked the characters and they grew well. The reference of the Romani culture and its details were accurate and did not reflect any of the romantic cliche often used when depicting gypsies in love stories. I enjoyed reading this and found it emotionally engaging and fulfilling.

5.0 out of 5 stars A different regency romanceNovember 29, 2012
This review is from: Seeking Patience (Kindle Edition)
Seeking Patience is a different regency historical romance. Lady Patience is the epitome of good manners and perfect behavior. Luca, half English and half Romany is a great gypsy. Excellent conflict from the first page in this fantastic book by Josie Riviera. I love her voice, her characters, and her unusual plots. The characters will keep you entertained with the danger they face and the sensual tension they share. Once you start reading you won't be able to put this novel down.

Sparks ignite when two completely worlds collide. Patience shows Luca that not all English are despicable, and Luka shows her that all gypsies are not illiterate theives. The romance between the two is palpable and very romantic. Loved this story!

5.0 out of 5 stars Cultrue ConflictNovember 21, 2012

A handsome gypsy, Luca and a beautiful countess, Patience, fall in love, but they come from different worlds. Their relationship is knotted with plight and conflict. They have Christianity in common, but Luca is slow to reveal his faith. I knew Luca would be the ultimate warrior and protector of Patience, if only he could get over his leg injury. I wanted his wound to hurry and heal so he could take care of Patience. There is romance and intrigue in this book, and I rooted for the characters. Relief came when the evil stepson received his due. Years have gone by since I selected a Regency to read, and Seeking Patience made me realize how much I miss them. Thanks Ms. Rivera for a good read. When the duties of life intervened, I hated to put the book aside for the common daily chores, and I was always happy to pick the book up again. Alas! Now I've finished. Hurry and write another one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hot, hunky Gypsy hero - The original bad boy?November 20, 2012

This review is from: Seeking Patience (Kindle Edition)
I loved this story about a widow with serious problems brought on by her greedy step son and a hero who doubts his own worth, but is as hot and hunky as a Gypsy rebel can be. Ms. Riviera takes a pair of opposites who shouldn't be able to find their happy ever after, and weaves a strong story that brings them together. Patience Blakwell is the best kind of heroine, strong and ready to fight for what she knows is right.

5.0 out of 5 stars Curl up by the fire and read this one!November 15, 2012
This review is from: Seeking Patience (Kindle Edition)
When the dowager, Patience Blakwell, is called to find a mysterious Gypsy injured on her doorstep, she welcomes him into her home as any Godly woman would. What she doesn't ponder to comprehend, she has also welcomed him into her heart.

Within hours of her attempt to hide Luca Boldor, the leader of a group of Roma Gypsies, Marko, Luca's enemy from another tribe, arrives at Patience's door. Her boldness and assertiveness is awarded with the back of Marko's hand and he makes his way to Luca's bedchamber but Luca is gone. When Marko decides to leave the estate, he burns her barn in revenge vowing to return and render his own justice to those who harbor Luca.

Patience finds the dark, handsome man hiding in her sewing closet. True to her name she nurses him back to health and teaches him a love he has never known. She also teaches him to trust in God.

Luca and Patience lead very diverse lives. One of seeming wealth and fine circumstances compared to that of a nomad who steals for his meager existence. Fiercely loyal to his tribe and those who try to protect him, his angst grows as he longs to be with Patience. He yearns to return to her blaming the infection raging through his system but he comes to understand she is his path to his healing both physically and spiritually. Once in Ipswich, Luca finds Patience dealing with the misfortune of the looming charge of murder of her former husband and a worrisome stepson who insists she return to London and live with him.

Ms. Rivera writes a remarkably powerful novel. While the reader is whisk away to Regency England, from the first page to the last Ms. Rivera captures the mood and scenery of the period. Along with Patience, I grew intensely anxious for Luca's return; worried he would not survive his injuries and worried for Patience's safety. The emotions and the underlying problems of the couple are played out with convincing awareness. The attention to detail and Ms Rivera's approach to informing the reader to truly know the character makes this an extraordinary read.

I commend Ms. Rivera on a job well done and after all who wouldn't want to find am attractive Gypsy at her doorway. Kudos Josie!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Lady and her GypsyNovember 14, 2012

Seeking Patience by Josie Riviera
1813 England

Luca Boldor leader of a Roma tribe. Half English, half Romany ends up in a bit of a mess after a run in with Marko, the leader of another tribe. With a hurt leg and beaten to an inch of his life he manages to find escape within the home of one of the English he hates. Only this widowed noblewoman has Luca realizing maybe there are some English with hearts.

Lady Patience Blakwell finds it disturbing that she feels a pull towards the handsome and dark Gypsy. She is troubled feeling anything towards a man who is neither her husband nor God fearing and yet for the first time in many years she feels safe. Her late husband was cruel and her stepson is accusing her of murdering his father so that she cannot collect her share of the money from his estate.

Two worlds collide in Ipswich. Patience who was born to polite society and Luca who was rejected by those very same people and is more comfortable with his Romany nomad side. A unique tale that is more than the difference between rich or poor, titled or untitled. A beautiful story is weaved as Luca is drawn to God through the beauty of the woman who has treated him kindly. There is much betrayal, hatred and struggles of being honor bound to one side or the other. I really enjoyed this book.
