LISTENING TO CROWS
She thought she had to carry the world for others: first, her ailing mother and, second, her hearing-impaired boyfriend. But the stress of meals, medication and the emotional juggling that made up her life proved too much and she decided it was time to cut the ties that pulled her down. However, her ex-boyfriend is about to prove that sometimes, if we listen carefully with our hearts, we can hear what nature says about love, family and responsibility.

With subtlety and effortlessly, the author weaves a wonderful short romance story around the need to enroll a parent into a nursing home. A daughter is at wit's end trying to care for her ailing mother, and decides to take a desperate measure. But someone from her past steps in to offer an alternative. Nicely done!

I really enjoyed how Ms Hopper, through her well-crafted short story, so clearly conveys the emotions of the tragic, yet commonplace drama of putting one's elderly parent in a home. I especially liked how this dramatic event is contained within a bigger romantic story arc. The use of a deaf character also added another layer of humanity to the touching story.
I highly recommend Listening To Crows. It will brighten a reader's day. I know it did mine. I look forward to reading more of Ms Hopper's fiction.
