If you love Texas, enjoy baseball, want to see the good guys win, and long for sweet romance with an athletic hunk, this one is for you. I wish the mother in the story had come around to be a bit more motherly, but all in all, this was a good read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Homerun is a Winner!March 23, 2013
This review is from: Homerun (Kindle Edition)
When the seemingly-spoiled socialite, Cynthiana, and the professional baseball player, Roberto, team up for a fundraiser, sparks fly and they soon discover the electrical charge isn't caused by animosity, but by mutual attraction. What starts out as a simple straight-forward romance soon becomes complex when Cynthiana's father attempts to dictate the course of her future and destroy Roberto at all costs. This novella has just enough spice and ample drama to create a real winner.

Homerun was a refreshing and sweet romance. The characters were easy to connect with and made you hope they got their happily ever after. Ruth Roberts writing style made the story enjoyable and impossible to put down. I will definitely be reading more from her.

4.0 out of 5 stars Two worlds mixMarch 7, 2013
This review is from: Homerun (Kindle Edition)
Planning a gala fundraiser throws together two people who might not normally meet and their mutual attraction heats up. Professional baseball pitcher Roberto Luque pursues schoolteacher Cynthiana Davenport, holder of a large trust fund. Watching these characters who come from very different backgrounds share their lives--from visits to a batting cage to hosting the gala to horseback riding--made for an enjoyable read. The building of their relationship was believable, especially when supported by Cynthiana's best friends. Although the relationship is put to the test through multiple problems, the characters worked for and got their happy ending. This short novella packed in all the elements of a sweet romance.

The world of baseball may be familiar to most men, but women are more likely to out in left field. The protagonist in this novella, Cynthiana Davenport, is a novice to the sport, despite having lived near Dallas, Texas, the home of the Texas Rangers. Still as the daughter of rich and socially prominent parents, she knows involving a star player, Roberto Luque, in a fund-raising gala can only make the event more successful, even if she doesn't like him. What she doesn't anticipate is falling in love with a playboy as renowned in his profession as she is in high society. The appeal is mutual, perhaps inevitable; but despite all the advantages possessed by the two, they face a threat that tests their relationship to the utmost. Readers will enjoy a brief, pleasant interlude when they submerge themselves into the story of the growing attraction between the couple and the major challenges they face that just may break them apart, which include issues of ethnicity and class.
