Austin: 7 October 2043
It was David, her husband, who brought the presentation to her attention. He informed Mary that Dr. Louis A. Burnett, world renowned medical researcher and creator of the Burnett treatment for breast cancer would be speaking that very evening at the Austin-Hilton hotel. David didn’t have to wait long for her reaction.
“David, let’s attend. I’d so very much like to see the man who gave me my life back. From what I’ve heard and read, a personal appearance by Dr. Burnett is truly a rare event. Goodness, I’ve never even seen a photograph of the man. Please, David, let’s do go.”
“I’ll see what I can do about getting tickets. I’m a bit dubious, though, that any seats will be available this close to his scheduled appearance.”
David was right about there being no tickets available. They still decided, however, to drive to the hotel and see if there might be any no-shows – hopefully two that might have had reserved seats next to one another. So it was that, at 7:57 p.m., just three minutes before the presentation was to begin, they were led to two adjacent seats no more than a few rows from the stage. Mary would finally have the opportunity to see and hear the man who had discovered the cure for her cancer – and she could hardly contain her excitement.
