Casey was twenty-six when her husband Dwayne finished law school. Even more than she wanted to return to college, she longed to have a child. She cautiously approached Dwayne about an idea she had harbored for some time. Would he consider starting their family, and put her education on hold? Dwayne was unenthusiastic about a baby and equally negative about more schooling for Casey. He felt they needed her income until he became established in a law firm.

A year went by. Mentioning the subject of college or a child was sure to set the torch to Dwayne’s anger, but Casey could only hold back a few weeks at a time. Finally her persistence seemed to pay off.
