Disappointed, dumped, divorced. Everything Casey Slaughter counted on is gone. While contemporaries start their families, Casey works two jobs to haul herself out of debt. Friends and family recommend a new husband to solve all her problems, but Casey resists all well-intentioned advice. Although she longs for a soul mate, the last thing her flattened self-esteem needs is more rejection—and comparisons to her beautiful, talented older sister do nothing to enhance Casey’s confidence. Unable to have children, she feels she has nothing to offer in marriage. Will bitterness and insecurity destroy her, or can renewed faith in God provide some measure of comfort for this wounded heart? Can Casey ever find love again, or will a string of disasters keep her forever on the run?
Format:Kindle Edition
Her mother hadn't taken the news well when Casey Slaughter explained the hysterectomy and now Casey couldn't deliver any worse news than to announce she would be getting a divorce.
Everyone from her mother and sister who lived in her small home town to her friends at the Houston hospital tried to set Casey up with someone, but she felt she had nothing to offer. Once she attained her first goal of buying a house, some unfortunate events took place and she rescued her neighbor Carlos Tucker's home from a fire and a thief. Carlos rushed Casey to the hospital when she cut her hand and she decides he'd make a wonderful friend.
Carlos became Casey's escort for parties and church and she thoroughly enjoys his company, but her mind goes back to their first meeting - when he appeared on her porch with lipstick, eye shadow and a loud silk shirt to claim his dog. She doesn't think he has any interest in woman.
When a tornado crashed down on their neighborhood, Casey and Carlos escaped with their pets and a few possessions and find out God has had a plan for them all along and Casey finds herself in awe of His promises.
Ms. Havel writes a wonderful story. This light romance with truly likable characters kept the book in my hand until it was finished. The story is heart warming and real and gives the reader a true perspective of God's gifts. Well done, Ms. Havel.
