Stuck in the drudgery of everyday life, frustrated photographer, Marc Dorin, longs for the day he can make a living from his photos. Given the launch-status of his latest photography book, he's well on his way to fame. However, until then, he's stuck in his boring teaching job at the local college.
Workaholic Julia Wilcox looks like she has it all together; great career, great future prospects, but a car accident three months earlier forced her into an indefinite stay with her brother and his expectant wife at their bed-and-breakfast while she recovers. Watching the happy couple together only reminds Julia that she's sadly lacking in the romance department. Add to that her failed attempt as a wife a few years earlier and it's easy to see that beneath her polished shell she's wounded and hurting.
When Julia and Marc meet they see in each other someone 'too good to be true', and though they inevitably are drawn together it's their individual fears of not being good enough that drives a wedge between them.
Lights and Shadows proves that Bonnie Blythe has what it takes to endure as a writer. The amount of time she puts into researching her stories, along with adding depth and heart to each of her characters, makes for a very pleasing read.
