A candid writing moment with Mary L. Ball

"When writing Stone of Destiny, I didn't really think about the gem I used. All I knew was- I love the sapphire ring and it's my birthstone. So for me, that was enough. When the novel was finished, I wondered if it would be acceptable. The story is a Christian Romantic Mystery and It's about dreams and symbolism. Often, people don't believe those two things co-exist.

Joan, the Editor-in-chief of Prism Book Group, has taught me and fine tuned me through two novels so far. So the edits started. She added a note, "Mary, have you researched the Christian meaning of  the Sapphire stone?" Along with the question was a link.

I was elated when I read that the stone represents Heaven's joy and Divine guidance. It all wrapped around the meaning of my story. No longer did I question myself as to why I wrote the story. For a reason only God knows it was meant for me to write."

  1. Oh, Mary, that gave me chills--in a good way! :) What a beautiful account of your story. I can't wait to read this tale that you were divinely guided to write!

  2. Mary - I can't wait until this one is in print. You've certainly sparked my interest since I went down this same path with one of my novels. How exciting.
