GOLD NUGGETS available July 3rd!
"I have visited all the Alaskan places I’ve written about in my Gold Rush series. But the one in my last Gold Rush novel, Gold Nuggets,
is closest to my heart. Not only is Denali National Park and Preserve
(formerly Mount McKinley National Park) beautiful and amazing, it’s also
what brought my husband to Alaska. He was a bus driver in the Park, and
we have many fond memories of it. He usually drove the bus to Eielson
Visitor Center, at Mile 66 in the park, but occasionally we went all the
way to the end of the road in Kantishna. Now, only a few lodges and an
airstrip are operating, but you can see some of the old mining claims
and Gold Rush buildings. They were a great inspiration when I was
writing the book, so I set it in 1916, in the waning years of the Gold
Rush and just before the Park was created. And of course there’s young
love in the story, too, kind of like the one we experienced!
If
you haven’t been yet and it’s on your bucket list, please, find a way
to go to Denali! You can drive or take the train from Anchorage or
Fairbanks, or join a group tour. My advice: plan on staying at least two
or three days— most bus tours take eight hours, and you may want more
time to spend the night in Kantishna or take advantage of other ways to
enjoy the area. You can view the mountains in the evening sunshine,
watch bears on the tundra, learn about the history of the Park, and know
you’re in a special place." Lynn Lovegreen author of The Gold Rush Series
