On April 1st in Canada, the carbon tax is set to rise a whopping 23%. So I'm looking for ways to cut back on expenses.
During January, to my horror, I discovered that using a space heater made the electricity bill jump. On a heating bill already at $300, that's not the direction I want the power bill to go.
So I stopped using the space heater, but looked for other ways to cut back. One is using extension cords with power switches. I've learned to shut off the TV and my Roku (I've cut the cable cord) when I retire for the night. It's incredible how much heat the Roku throws, so cutting all power to it saves some money.
Also, look for packages to save on your Internet bill. When our TV/phone/and Internet package was heading for $200 a month, it was time to do something about it. I was in touch with our cable provider and cut that expenditure by half without it affecting the Internet.
Of course it meant a serious reduction in channels to watch via the cable box, so I purchased two Roku boxes--$50 each, and I own them. I don't even miss cable now. There's never a lack of movies and shows to watch. And if you happen to miss some shows, you can pay a small monthly fee for your favorites.
Those are two suggestions to save on expenses. Every little bit you save adds up.
