I vacuum.
When my floors are clean (I know, I know, I'm cleaning backwards), I feel motivated. When I look at my area rug and it's piled with white cat fur (my cats love wrestling on the rug), it weighs heavy on my mind. But I feel almost lighter by vacuuming. Crazy, huh? But that's my motivation to start cleaning.
Also, I'm not a "day" cleaner, meaning that after sunset I seem to come alive--with a dust rag. That's not to say I don't do any cleaning during the day. When I take a short break from writing, I'll get in a quick scrub in the bathroom: toilet and sink and I feel prepared for the day.
I don't know about you, but my environment will either defeat or springboard my productivity. There really is a way to balance writing at home, making meals, and keeping your home tidy. You can read about it in my book:
