When I'm cooking or waiting for something to heat up in the microwave, I wash dishes. Before I start prepping food, I wedge the dish drainer into the second sink and I'm ready to go. Capitalizing on the second sink makes sure valuable countertop space isn't wasted or cluttered.
I could use the dishwasher, but I can't be bothered. Handwashing is so much quicker. So while food is cooking or heating up, I wash and rinse the dishes as I'm waiting. Then I place them in the dish drainer to air dry.
Sometimes I have exactly a one-minute countdown on the microwave, but it's enough time to wash and rinse cutlery, a bowl or two, and maybe a cup. I've turned this little chore into a contest to see if I can beat the "clock." Most times I do!
What I like best about this take on kitchen multi-tasking is even though the dishes are air-drying, the kitchen looks tidy and clean.
If that's not enough of a challenge for you, add wiping down the countertop to the "competition." Sixty seconds can make you feel like a winner and set the tone for the day.
